We recently spent the afternoon visiting with Carolyn Mason, of Bettie and — more importantly — of the Foundation for Shackelford Horses. Carolyn is full of horse stories, and filled us in on the history of the Foundation and its mission to protect the herd and help the horses to become a balanced group that will be a self-maintaining part of the Shackleford Banks ecosystem.

We got to see several of the diminutive horses up close and personal — Carolyn houses several that are awaiting adoption as well as her own horses. And she cleared up several confusions in the mind of the writer, resulting in new content on the Shackleford Banks page.
