CONGRATULATIONS to the Harkers Island Elementary "Battle of the Books! team! The contest is a reading incentive program sponsored by the North Carolina School Library Media Association and the teams are required to read 27 preselected books prior to the competition. During the tourney they are asked questions about the content and are required to respond with the book title; giving the author's name earns an extra point.

Members of the winning team are: Darbi Ferguson, Trey Fulcher, Brittany Hancock, Naomi Miller, Matthew Mitchell, Corby Moore, Ashley Walker and Mike Willis. They were coached by Dianne Garner, School Media Coordinator.

There is so much history Down East, from the Lost Colony to the legacy of Portsmouth Island to the military contributions made by Down East folks, from the Civil War to today.
