Tide Information
Drum Inlet
We have been asked to provide tide information for Drum Inlet...However
it appears that the data provided for the locations below is
NOT available for Drum Inlet! David
Flater, who has designed the program which provides the tide
data to the Univerity of South Carolina web site, says: "The
sites for which we generate predictions are primarily sites for
which long-term observations have been collected (at the site with
real instruments) by governmental bodies. Those observations have
then been distilled into a set of mathematical constants ("constituents")
for a tidal prediction equation. So these are not purely mathematically
derived (as are, for example, lunar phase or sunrise/sunset calculations),
but must be based on actual observations at the site." The
best we can do is tell you that for Drum Inlet, high tide is
-29 min. and low tide is -30 min. from Morehead
City . Apparently some tide observations are not made public
by the government for "security
reasons." We guess the government doesn't care much
about the fishermen... but then that's not news, is it?
